Victory in Vietnam for ISA! 愛(ài)莎學(xué)生赴越南競(jìng)賽,戰(zhàn)績(jī)傲人

  I was very honoured to accompany 16 of our students to Ho Chi Min to take part in the SIMOC math Competition. Students from over 20 countries took part, some had travelled over 44 hours to get there from Mexico, which made our 3-hour flight seem rather short.

  上周來(lái)自愛(ài)莎的16名學(xué)生在幼兒及小學(xué)部校長(zhǎng)Ms. Beth的帶隊(duì)下前往越南胡志明市參加新加坡國(guó)際奧林匹克數(shù)學(xué)競(jìng)賽。同樣參加此次競(jìng)賽的還有來(lái)自超過(guò)20個(gè)國(guó)家的學(xué)生,有的參賽學(xué)生甚至是從墨西哥出發(fā),經(jīng)歷了44個(gè)小時(shí)的路途后才抵達(dá)賽場(chǎng)。相比之下,愛(ài)莎學(xué)生三個(gè)小時(shí)的飛行時(shí)間也似乎沒(méi)有這么漫長(zhǎng)了。

  Students from all over the world gather for the exciting competition!

  Singa is Singapore Math Global. It is a unique new math competition with ambitious and important goals. Questions in the competition will be based on Singapore schools' math questions which have a high content of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). The focus in Singa is very strong on teamwork, and the medal winning groups have to show high levels of collaboration, stamina and mutual support - as well as superlative math skills. Named after the lion in the name of Singapore itself, Singa will also be brave, tough and noble: a thrilling team challenge that equips children everywhere for 21st Century learning.

  Singa是新加坡全球數(shù)學(xué)競(jìng)賽的簡(jiǎn)稱(chēng),該競(jìng)賽十分獨(dú)特新穎,競(jìng)賽中的題目將基于新加坡學(xué)校的數(shù)學(xué)問(wèn)題,對(duì)學(xué)生的高階思維能力有一定的要求。并且新加坡全球數(shù)學(xué)競(jìng)賽將團(tuán)隊(duì)合作能力放在考察的首位,除了具備高超的數(shù)學(xué)技巧外,各個(gè)小組還須緊密協(xié)作,相互幫助并擁有十足的耐心才能在小組賽中脫穎而出。Singa不僅與獅子同名,代表著新加坡的獅城形象,同時(shí)也是勇敢,堅(jiān)毅和高貴的象征:Singa鍛煉了學(xué)生的團(tuán)隊(duì)協(xié)作能力,使學(xué)生能夠完美應(yīng)對(duì)21世紀(jì)的學(xué)習(xí)挑戰(zhàn)。

  The questions are challenging! Here is an example of some Year 1 and 2 questions:

  競(jìng)賽的題目都具有一定的難度,以下是一、二年級(jí)的競(jìng)賽的題目示例。

  The competition was a whole day event with one individual test and two team events. The event was hosted by the Science and Engineering University of HO Chi Min, starting with an individual round where students were led into university classrooms to sit and complete a test under strict exam conditions. We were so proud of our students for the mature way they participated. Over 350 children took part in this competition.

  本次競(jìng)賽由胡志明理工大學(xué)主辦,賽程為一天,包含一場(chǎng)個(gè)人競(jìng)賽和兩場(chǎng)團(tuán)體賽。首先進(jìn)行的是個(gè)人賽,超過(guò)350名學(xué)生根據(jù)指引到達(dá)課室并在嚴(yán)格的條件下完成考試,愛(ài)莎學(xué)生鎮(zhèn)定自如地完成本場(chǎng)考試。



  After lunch the students had two team events, where they were assigned team members from other countries and they had to work together to achieve their common goal. Our students are used to this collaborative approach and we won many team medals! A testament to our collaborative learning approach at school.

  午餐過(guò)后學(xué)生將迎來(lái)兩次團(tuán)體賽,比賽中他們將被分配到不同的小組,與來(lái)自其他國(guó)家的學(xué)生協(xié)作完成任務(wù)。愛(ài)莎素來(lái)重視培養(yǎng)學(xué)生的協(xié)作能力,學(xué)生們學(xué)以致用在團(tuán)體賽中愛(ài)莎學(xué)生斬獲眾多獎(jiǎng)牌!





  The day after the test we were invited to join a group tour of Ho Chi Min and we learnt so much about the city. This was a hugely important part of the experience as there was so much to learn, about how different one of our neighbouring countries is.

  比賽過(guò)后的第二天,愛(ài)莎代表隊(duì)受邀參觀胡志明市,學(xué)生對(duì)這座城市也有了更多的了解。此次出行的目的不僅僅在于競(jìng)賽,旅程本身也吸引著學(xué)生不斷探索學(xué)習(xí),從而使學(xué)生了解到世界的多樣性,就好像即使中國(guó)和越南的地理位置如此相近,兩個(gè)國(guó)家仍是不盡相同的。



  Kenneth from Y1C had some wonderful questions: Why do the people use motorbikes as major vehicles? Why don’t they use the metro? Why is their rice not tasty? The children will do presentations in assembly next week to talk about what they learnt. Justin told us that he was glad that he had overcome his fears when he went in to the tunnels under the ground.

  一年級(jí)C班的Kenneth同學(xué)一路上提出了許多精彩的問(wèn)題:為什么越南的出行工具以摩托車(chē)為主?他們?yōu)槭裁床淮畹罔F?為什么當(dāng)?shù)氐拿罪埐幻牢?下一周的集會(huì)上學(xué)生將會(huì)以本次越南之旅為主題做一次演講,交流他們?cè)诼吠局械氖斋@。比如Justin很高興自己能夠克服內(nèi)心的恐懼走進(jìn)地下隧道。



  The third day was the Award Ceremony Day and we were all so excited to hear the results, our school has some remarkable mathematicians, and we are proud of all the children that came with us. Students exchanged gifts with the children of other countries, a symbol of the good will the whole competition hopes to encourage. One of the aims is to encourage the participants not just to compete but also make friends with students from other countries as well. Perhaps there may be future collaborations among the participants that arise out of new friendships made in SINGA!

  令人激動(dòng)的頒獎(jiǎng)儀式在第三天舉行,愛(ài)莎很驕傲我們的學(xué)生在此次數(shù)學(xué)競(jìng)賽中獲得如此出眾的成績(jī),同時(shí)也為所有所有參賽學(xué)生而自豪。頒獎(jiǎng)后,來(lái)自各個(gè)國(guó)家的學(xué)生互相交換了禮物,完美詮釋了“友誼第一”的競(jìng)賽精神。祝愿學(xué)生們能夠在本次競(jìng)賽中收獲珍貴的友誼,并在未來(lái)有更進(jìn)一步的合作。
